Jenn Peña, Ph.D.

Jenn has been a special educator for over 20 years in New Mexico, in both urban and rural districts, always in Title I schools. Jenn has experience teaching in self-contained settings and inclusion settings at all grade levels, and spent 8 years as the Special Education Director at a high performing charter school. Jenn’s passion is providing not only professional development, but working individually with schools, administration, and teachers to develop their programs and practices to be compliant and highly effective. Jenn’s educational background began with a B.S. in Biology from Dickinson College (Carlisle, PA), followed by an M.A. and Ph.D. in Special Education from The University of New Mexico. She holds a Level 3 New Mexico Licensure in PreK-12 Special Education, 6-12 General Education (Math and Science), and Administration. Jenn founded JMP Academy of Professional Development in the summer of 2020 to provide meaningful support to charter schools and districts throughout New Mexico. She repeatedly found that people running special education in schools were poorly prepared for such a task, despite the best intentions. The knowledge and skills needed were beyond the scope of what is taught in academic programs, but training options were insufficient. Jenn loves working directly with schools and administrators to develop effective systems, improve quality of services, and support those working with students.
